WHAT'S A WE'RE ABOUT 9?
In January 2014, We’re About 9 released Future Pilot, a 182-backer crowd funded album—their first album of new songs since 2008. Future Pilot weaves stories of entire lifespans with WA9’s most ambitious lyrics, lush production, and biggest vocal harmonies today date. Their 14+ year career has taken We’re About 9 from fire-code-breaking shows at a Baltimore-area coffee shop, to a national reputation for brainy and emotionally-connected songwriting, captivating vocal harmonies, and impromptu fun at shows. You may know WA9 from their main stage performances at over a dozen festivals (Falcon Ridge, Kerrville, Four Corners, Philadelphia), from their two NERFA formal showcases (2002, 2011), or from Folk DJ favorites like Nobody Flying and Albany.

WHERE DID THAT NAME COME FROM?
We made up the name “We’re About 9” while we were signing up for an open mic over a decade ago. We had no idea it would stick, and certainly didn’t expect that we’d still be going by this name or even playing music all these years later. But music still makes us feel like nine-year-olds, digging into the fresh discoveries of the world, making light of everything, and asking questions relentlessly.
BOOKING WE’RE ABOUT 9
If you’re interested in booking We’re About 9, you may want to check out our Kit and our Contact page. Want to try out a concert in your own house? Get in touch, and we’ll talk through the logistics. Want to book us at your gigantic stadium? We’re probably not ready for that, and we’ll gladly tell you so and see if we can work out something mutually beneficial. Our best draw is in MD (Baltimore/DC/Annapolis), MA (Cambridge/Boston), NY (Brooklyn/Manhattan), and Northern VA (Alexandria). But we’ve also had extremely successful shows in FL, OH, and NM. Broadly speaking, we’ve had success in Folk Festival, Folk Club, Coffeehouse, House Concerts and other listening room settings.
Correct. We play in both formats. The trio plays mostly between Northern VA and NYC. The duo frequents the New England area. And there are a great number of exceptions to both of those rules. You can learn more about the duo and trio at our kit page.
